The AA Route Planner (www.theaa.com) and The RAC Route Planner – (www.rac.co.uk/web/routeplanner) Both sites have good route planners

Frixo - ( www.frixo.com) gives up to the minute details of traffic conditions and bottlenecks across the country

Google Maps – (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps) These maps are some of the best on the web. Go to Google Maps and simply enter your town, city, village or post code. The route directions are also very detailed with information about petrol stations, eating places and accomodation available along the route.

Momondo – (www.momondo.com/en/) Probably the best source of cheap European flights I have found

Kayak – (www.kayak.co.uk/flights) Searches 120 sites looking for the best flight deals

Trip Advisor at www.tripadvisor.com is a mine of information by actual paying customers about thousands of hotels and B&Bs throughout the UK and across the world

The Lonely Planet site at http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ offers a lot of good advice from its subscribers. Largely aimed at foreign destinations rather than obscure UK venues

Canal Boating in the UK and Europe at http://www.canals.com/ lists over 2000 websites for all standards of boating

Visit Britain is the official Tourism Agency’s website http://www.visitbritain.co.uk/

The Open Directory’s portal to travel guides and directories is a very good jumping off place to research holiday destinations at www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Guides_and_Directories/

Travelocity’s UK site at www.travelocity.co.uk has very good offers on city break holidays
